SSE Shares Fall After First-Half Trading Update
By Maitane Sardon
Shares in SSE fell after the energy group provided a trading update for its fiscal first half and said it is on track to meet its full-year guidance.
The energy group said it expects to report interim adjusted earnings per share of between 33 and 37 pence for the six months to Sept. 30. Adjusted EPS will come in line with usual seasonal averages and reflect the fact that the company delivers the majority of annual earnings in the second half, SSE said.
Expectations for its full-year performance remain unchanged, it said. It had guided for adjusted EPS of between 175 and 200 pence.
Shares were 1.3% lower at 1,743 pence in early morning trade Thursday.
Adjusted investment in networks is expected to increase by around 60% to 1.1 billion pounds ($1.5 billion) in the first half, relative to the same period last year, the company said.
Meanwhile, SSE said it expects output in the first half to be around 2% lower than the same period last year. It cited unfavorable weather conditions over the summer months as the reason for the decline.
SSE's EPS guidance is tracking at the lower end, which is a minor negative, Jefferies analyst Ahmed Farman said in a research note following the update.
