U.S. Futures, European Stocks Down Ahead of Fed Minutes
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.1% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 declined 0.4% in morning trading. Marks & Spencer Group rose 8.1% and Billerud added 4.2%. On the other hand, RS Group dropped 8.4%, and Aalberts slipped 4.2%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.6%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 decreased 0.5% and Germany's DAX fell 0.3%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.1% to 99.35.
In commodities, Brent crude fell 1.3% to $81.80 a barrel, and WTI crude fell 1.4% to $77.56 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 2.4% to EUR33.8 a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 5 basis points to 2.549% from 2.503%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 3 basis points to 4.449% from 4.421%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell 0.8%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.2%, whereas China's benchmark Shanghai Composite held steady.
