U.S. Futures Up, European Stocks Mixed as Easing U.S. Inflation Raises Rate-Cut Hopes
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.1% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.1% in morning trading. Sweco Series B climbed 12.3% and Watches of Switzerland added 9.5%. On the other hand, Ubisoft Entertainment sunk 12.6%, and Umicore slipped 8.6%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.3%. Other stocks in Europe were mixed as France's CAC 40 declined 0.2% and Germany's DAX held steady.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index fell 0.1% to 98.91.
In commodities, Brent crude gained 0.4% to $83.04 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.4% to $78.94 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 0.1% to EUR29.7 a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield declined by 1 basis point to 2.418% from 2.425%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 1 basis point to 4.337% from 4.344%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.4%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed 1.4%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 0.1%.
