Hynion Gets Support From Toyota to Upgrade Hydrogen Station
By Dominic Chopping
Hynion, a Norwegian company building and operating hydrogen stations in Scandinavia, said Friday that an expanded deal with Toyota will see the Japanese auto maker contribute toward the costs of updating a hydrogen refueling station in Norway.
Hynion's station at Hovik outside Oslo is the only public hydrogen refueling station in use in Norway and the company said Toyota's aid will be used for necessary plant upgrades and other improvements that will increase the capacity and the availability of hydrogen at the station.
Toyota launched its first hydrogen-powered fuel cell car, the Mirai, in 2014 and it continues to be sold globally.
"For Toyota Norway, it is imperative that Hynion's hydrogen refueling station at Hovik can increase capacity and be upgraded to seamless functionally and accessibility for our customers," said Espen Olsen, Chief Information Officer at Toyota Norge.
Hynion has three stations in Sweden with a further two due to open this year. In Norway, it has the Hovik site and another station that is awaiting re-certification.
Financial terms of the agreement weren't disclosed.
