US Futures Mixed, European Stocks Higher Ahead of Central Bank Meetings This Week
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.1% in morning trading. LPP rose 7.9% and Alstom added 7.6%. On the other hand, Logitech International dropped 6.4%, and Phoenix Group Holdings slipped 2.4%. The FTSE 100 added 0.1%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 increased 0.1% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.1%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 98.07.
In commodities, Brent crude rose 0.7% to $85.96 a barrel, and WTI crude climbed 0.8% to $81.72 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 5.2% to EUR28.43 a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 1 basis point to 2.452% from 2.442%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury declined by 1 basis point to 4.31% from 4.318%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index climbed 2.7%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.1%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 1%.
