TotalEnergies 600kt/yr Styrene Unit in Gonfreville Back Online: Sources — OPIS
TotalEnergies is boosting output at its 600,000 metric ton/year styrene monomer (SM) unit in Gonfreville-l'Orcher, northern France, several market sources told OPIS Wednesday.
The Gonfreville-l'Orcher styrene facility, Europe's second largest, was shut down for an unplanned maintenance in early February, according to sources, although it is not clear when the restart process began.
TotalEnergies declined to provide OPIS with details, and said it did "not comment on operations."
The return of the unit is expected to improve the European styrene supply, which has been short beginning of this year due to planned and unplanned outages in the region.
Styrene is used to produce latex and polystyrene resins, which are in turn used to make many end-user products, including plastic packaging, insulation and synthetic rubber.
