Thales Wins $2.29 Billion Contract to Support U.K.'s Royal Navy With AI, Data
By Mauro Orru
Thales secured a contract valued at 1.8 billion pounds ($2.29 billion) to provide the U.K.'s Royal Navy with artificial intelligence and data-analysis tools that will help it predict potential hurdles before they emerge.
The French aerospace-and-defense company said Friday that the 15-year contract comes as Royal Navy platforms need to be on active duty for longer periods because of escalating global instability.
"This GBP1.8 billion contract with Thales will help keep more Royal Navy ships at sea for longer, by harnessing the latest developments in artificial intelligence, data analysis and improved dockland facilities," said Alex Cresswell, chief executive of Thales's U.K. business.
The contract includes investments at facilities in Devonport, Faslane, Portsmouth and Bahrain.
