Naturgy Builds Fourth Biomethane Plant in Spain

   By Giulia Petroni

Naturgy is building a biomethane plant treating agro-industrial waste in the Spanish province of Lleida for a total investment of 18 million euros ($19.7 million).

The energy company said Tuesday that the facility, scheduled to be commissioned in 2025, will treat 140,000 metric tons a year of agro-industrial and livestock waste from the area, generating 60 gigawatt hours of renewable gas a year.

That is equivalent to the annual consumption of 16,000 households, according to Naturgy, and is set to prevent the emission of 15,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The biomethane generated at the plant will be injected directly into the network of the area's gas distrubutor Nedgia.

Naturgy currently operates three other plants for the production of biomethane in Spain.
