Progressive Q1 Earnings Up 43%

Progressive Corp. on Thursday reported a 43% increase in first-quarter earnings over the same period last year.
The Mayfield Village, Ohio-based insurance company reported earnings of $447.9 million, or 75 cents a share, for the three-month period ending March 31, compared with $313.9 million, or 52 cents a share, in the same quarter a year ago.
Net premiums written rose 23% to $16.11 billion, while net premiums earned climbed 15% to $13.53 billion.
