New Eagle OpenECU NX3 Named “Battery Charging Technology Solution of the Year” In 2026 AutoTech Breakthrough Awards Program
OpenECU NX3 combines CCS, megawatt charging and vehicle supervisory control in a single production-ready ECU
New Eagle™, a leader in embedded control systems for intelligent vehicles and machines, today announced its OpenECU NX3 platform has been selected “Battery Charging Technology Solution of the Year” in the seventh annual AutoTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by AutoTech Breakthrough, which recognizes innovation across the global automotive and transportation technology markets.
As OEMs move toward megawatt charging, vehicle architectures are becoming more complex. The OpenECU NX3 addresses that challenge by combining Combined Charging System (CCS), Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and full vehicle supervisory control in a single production-ready ECU. In architectures that traditionally require separate CCS, MCS and supervisory controllers, the NX3 can reduce controller count by up to 67% while simplifying wiring, software integration, diagnostics and validation.
Built on New Eagle’s OpenECU hardware platform and integrated with the Raptor® software ecosystem, the NX3 provides a unified development path from engineering through production. OEMs can develop, calibrate, validate and deploy application software using either model-based design or C-code development.
The NX3 supports DIN 70121, ISO 15118-2 and ISO 15118-20, along with CAN-FD, LIN and SENT interfaces for integration with battery management, thermal management, driveline and other vehicle systems. It is engineered to support ASIL-D functional safety objectives and ISO 21434 cybersecurity requirements, while enabling customers with a flexile architecture to support charging box applications or standalone charging implementation.
“As charging power increases, OEMs should not have to add more controllers and more complexity to the vehicle,” said Kevin Alley, chief commercial officer at New Eagle. “NX3 brings CCS, megawatt charging and vehicle supervisory control together in one production-ready platform, giving customers a simpler architecture and a faster path to deployment. We’re proud to see that approach recognized by AutoTech Breakthrough.”
This is the second consecutive year New Eagle has been named winner in the AutoTech Breakthrough Awards. The annual AutoTech Breakthrough Awards recognize companies and technologies advancing automotive and transportation innovation worldwide.
“As OEMs transition to megawatt charging, conventional architectures can add complexity through separate charging and supervisory controllers,” said Bryan Vaughn, managing director of AutoTech Breakthrough. “By consolidating those functions into one scalable ECU, New Eagle’s NX3 simplifies vehicle architecture and gives manufacturers a faster path to next-generation high-power electric vehicles.”
