GSK lung cancer treatment data shows "positive anti-tumour activity"
(Alliance News) - GSK PLC on Monday set out its first batch of global data for the risvutatug rezetecan drug.
The London-based biopharmaceutical and biotechnology company said the drug would help patients with advanced-stage small cell lung cancer, with findings showing "positive anti-tumour activity".
Results from the phase Ib dose-optimisation part of the Embold PanTumour-101 trial showed ris-rez had an objective response rate of 61% among patients taking an 8 milligrams per kilogram dose, compared to 32% at 6mg/kg, GSK said.
The objective response rate is the percentage of patients whose cancer shrinks or disappears entirely.
Senior Vice President, Global Head of Oncology, R&D, GSK Hesham Abdullah said, "Today's first global data for Ris-Rez build on the statistically significant overall survival benefit recently reported in Hansoh’s pivotal Chinese trial. As the data for Ris-Rez continues to grow, we remain focused on accelerating development in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, where patients often relapse quickly and urgently need more treatment options."
Small cell lung cancer is characterised by "early metastatic spread, frequent relapse and poor prognosis," the company said. Survival of patients with standard treatments is around 12 to 13 months, with the cancer accounting for about 10-15% of all lung cancer diagnoses globally.
Shares in GSK were marginally higher at 1,863.00 pence per share on Monday morning in London.
