Wide moat coverage represents the percentage of a fund's portfolio that's invested in wide-moat stocks. Morningstar defines an economic moat as a company’s sustainable competitive advantage that protects it from competitors and allows it to earn excess returns on capital over time. A moat may benefit from factors such as cost advantages, intangible assets, network effects, efficient scale, or switching costs.
