An industry is a category within a sector (a broad business category). Individual research providers may classify sectors and industries in different ways, so investors may see variations in how they're represented.

Morningstar divides the stock universe into 11 sectors (such as technology, healthcare, and energy), each of which contains various industry groups and specific industries.

Our investment management business generates asset-based fees, which are calculated as a percentage of assets under management. We also sell both admissions and sponsorship packages for our investment conferences and advertising on our websites and newsletters.

How we approach editorial content
