Product Safety

What is product safety?

Product safety assesses the safety hazard risk from using a product.

Severe product safety issues can harm consumers, resulting in costly lawsuits, product recalls, and reputational damage for the manufacturer. Risks that government regulators look for include fire hazards, chemical exposure, and electrocution. Regulators also prioritize safety hazards that can harm children.

Manufacturers should assess a product’s safety risks before selling it to consumers. If a product’s risk can’t be prevented, they must decide what level of risk is acceptable, communicate this risk to consumers, and track incidents that may occur.
