Marubeni Is a Broad-Based Trading Company With Investment Focus on Midstream and Consumer Sectors

Marubeni’s strategic investment focus, as announced in its midterm strategy in February 2025, aims to allocate capital to high-added-value scalable domains across all segments, alongside selective energy transition-aligned upstream resource investments (for example, copper). Capital recycling out of stagnant or legacy businesses and redeploying into high-growth businesses (such as green energy) will also be a focus. Historically more financially leveraged than its peers, Marubeni’s ability to invest aggressively in new growth areas was constrained. However, it has strengthened its balance sheet through retained earnings, giving it greater flexibility to pursue selective expansion while improving shareholder returns.
