First Solar: Tesla’s Solar Ambitions Should Be Taken Seriously, but With Key Caveats

First Solar shares fell 10% on Jan. 29, 2026, after Tesla discussed plans to manufacture 100 gigawatts of solar modules per year on its earnings call. Its 2026 capital expenditure guidance doesn't yet reflect spending on solar manufacturing as the initiative was described as being in an early phase.
