Motorola Earnings: Solid LMR Sales and Gross Margin Expansion Drive Results, Raising Our Fair Value

We are increasing our fair value estimate for wide-moat-rated Motorola to $460 per share from $351, driven by a change in our discount rate from 9% to 7.5%. We believe the company’s exceptionally stable land mobile radio business combined with its other public safety focused businesses merit the lowest discount rate we use when modeling companies. We now view shares as fairly valued.
