As Patient Capital matures, it retains its Average Parent rating.
Samantha McLemore is this six-year-old firm’s founder and CIO, but she has a long history of relevant experience. McLemore started working closely with legendary investor Bill Miller at Legg Mason in 2002 and followed Miller after he left to join his own firm, Miller Capital, in 2012. She then became an assistant portfolio manager comanager in 2008 and was later promoted to comanager in 2014, where she became even more well-versed in Miller’s contrarian, bold investing philosophy. After Miller stepped off the fund in 2022, that fund’s shareholders voted to award Patient Capital the management contract. While Miller remains a minority shareholder and senior advisor here, McLemore sets the tone.
McLemore has built out a stable investment team, but the noninvestment team is still taking shape. Between 2025 and early 2026, the firm’s chief financial officer and chief compliance officer left the firm after fairly short stints. While disappointing, McLemore has since hired a new chief compliance officer (who will also take on chief financial officer duties), a new operations manager, and a marketing manager. The investment team, which oversees the firm’s two contrarian value strategies, has remained stable and has expanded to five members after the addition of an analyst in early 2026.
While the firm is still relatively small and evolving, it has nearly doubled its assets under management to USD 2.9 billion (as of April 2026) since Patient Capital took over, helped by strong market performance over the past three years. Investors here should be able to endure ups and downs but can count on its concentrated contrarian approach to (mostly) US stocks.
