Elmasry retired in December 2022 after a lengthy stint as lead portfolio manager of IFP strategies for around two decades(at both IFP and MSIM) and managing partner of IFP since its formation. The business and strategies remain in the highly capable hands of Jayson Vowles and Michael Allison, who are both founding partners and experienced operators. IFP is 100% staff-owned and has shown commendable stability with Paras Dodhia and John Kelly-Jones as the only other senior departures, both of whom retired. Long-term succession planning has been handled conscientiously through the steady expansion of firm headcount and development of core team members and actively involving them in key investment decisions. IFP has stuck firmly to its knitting, offering its signature franchise strategy in only two flavours, global and US. The global strategy has been soft-closed in the past, demonstrating commitment to unitholders and prudent capacity management. IFP managed USD 14.5 billion at 31 Dec 2022. Incentive alignment with investors is also strong, with a significant portion of portfolio managers’ bonuses invested in the strategies for their entire careers and up to five years after their retirement or departure from the firm. In Australia, IFP’s responsible entity and distribution partner is Macquarie.
Independent Franchise Partners was formed in 2009 by Hassan Elmasry and four former colleagues from Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
