The Week Ahead: Earnings Season Kicks Into High Gear

Jeremy Glaser: For Morningstar, I'm Jeremy Glaser, and welcome to The Week Ahead, our quick take on what investors should have on their radar screens for the week starting July 18.

Earnings season kicks into high gear this week. We'll hear from the more large financial companies this week including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, American Express, Visa, and Morgan Stanley.

Blue-chip technology earnings will also begin rolling in. Some questions on investors' minds will include: Can Microsoft continue its momentum in cloud computing? Has IBM found a way to slow the decline in its core business? Are Intel's restructuring efforts enough to help it cope with a slowing PC market?

Netflix provided downbeat guidance during their last quarterly update--and the market will be watching to see the progress of the firm's international expansion.

Chipotle has been aggressively trying to win back customers after a series of food safety scares. Thursday's earnings release will show if the company is turning the corner.

Other earnings releases in the week include General Motors, General Electric, eBay, and Starbucks.

It will be quieter on the data front, focused mostly on housing data.

Stay tuned to Morningstar for our take on all of these stories.
