The Week Ahead: Quiet Ahead of the Fed

Will productivity remain under pressure? Plus consumer sentiment data, and Lululemon's earnings under the microscope.

The Week Ahead: Quiet Ahead of the Fed

Jeremy Glaser: For Morningstar, I’m Jeremy Glaser and welcome to The Week Ahead, our quick take on what investors should have on their radar screens for the week starting June 6.

After a busy data week, we’ll get a bit of a breather ahead of next week’s hotly anticipated Fed meeting.

We’ll get an update on first-quarter productivity on Tuesday. The initial reading showed a 1% annualized decline in the quarter. As I discussed with Bob Johnson last week, productivity has been under pressure as job growth had been outpacing underlying economic growth.

The University of Michigan sentiment survey due Friday will provide a glimpse into the current psyche of the consumer.

Lululemon was in the news last week as founder Chip Wilson publicly criticized the retailer’s current management, saying they didn’t have vision. This puts the spotlight on Wednesday’s earnings, which come at a time when other retailers have been reporting mostly downbeat results.

Stay tuned to Morningstar for our take on all of these stories.
