Europe: Shares Choppy in Early Trade

Equities in Europe were trading without firm direction early Wednesday amid a string of tepid economic data.

At the time of writing, Britain's FTSE was trading 0.1% lower while France's CAC and Germany's DAX rose 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively.

Financials were trading mildly higher: Barclays, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole and Societe Generale gained 0.3% to 0.8%.

Shares in Wolseley, the plumbing-products specialist, fell 1.6% after the firm declared earnings that missed street estimates.

While Hammerson gained 1.5% after Morgan Stanley upgraded the stock to 'buy'.

Elsewhere, Asian markets were trading mostly flat after some weak economic data--the Australian GDP report came in negative--capped gains.
