Asian Stocks End Higher; Tech Rises

Shares in Asia ended higher Thursday, following a strong performance on Wall Street, with technology stocks getting a boost from Apple earnings overnight.

At close, Japan's Nikkei, mainland China's Shanghai Composite, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, India's Sensex and Australia's ASX rose 0.7% to 1.1%.

Resource plays also gained broadly, with gold, crude oil and base metals also trading firm in the commodities market.

Stocks on the Move

In Tokyo, stocks witnessed a broad-based advance with electronics giant Sony, Ricoh and Pioneer gained 1.2% to 2%. Automaker Nissan jumped 3.2%.

In Hong Kong and China, shares were boosted by strength in metals, property and banks. CNOOC added 2.1%. Jiangxi Copper rose 1.2%.

But China Mobile underperforming the index, falling 1% after declaring its earnings.

Indian stocks logged gains for the third day with energy players supporting the index.

Software exporter Tata Consultancy Services declined 2.2% after posting its quarterly numbers.

While in Sydney, National Australia Bank, ANZ Bank and Westpac Banking Group climbed 1.2% to 2%.
