Matthews China's Promotion Is Sensible; Ratings Unchanged

Analyst Note

Hardy Zhu was promoted from analyst to comanager on Matthews China on April 29, 2024. This makes sense. Zhu--who is a China specialist and who was also promoted to comanager on Matthews China Small Companies MICHX and a few of the firm's other strategies--has worked as an analyst on the strategy since he joined Matthews in 2011. He has 17 years of investment experience overall. Meanwhile, lead manager Andrew Mattock, comanager Winnie Chwang, and comanager Sherwood Zhang remain in place. They are seasoned and skilled Matthews veterans, and the process they use for this strategy remains the same. This strategy, therefore, retains its People and Process ratings of Above Average. That said, it’s worth noting that those ratings each dropped from High earlier this year owing to reduced confidence in Matthews' overall investment team and other issues.
