12b-1 Fee

12b-1 Fee is a fee used to pay for a mutual fund’s distribution costs. It is often used as a commission to brokers for selling the fund.

The amount, which can be as high as 75 basis points for commissions and 25 basis points for service fees, is taken from a fund’s returns.
