On February 8, 2024, short-seller Muddy Waters Research published a report entitled “Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd.: The GE of Canada” (the “Muddy Waters Report”). The Muddy Waters Report alleged that FFH engaged in “abusive accounting”, manipulating asset values and income by “engaging in value destructive transactions aimed at generating accounting gains.”
Following publication of the Muddy Waters Report, FFH’s stock price fell $121.06 per share, or 11.6%, to close at $920.37 per share on February 8, 2024.
