U.S. Futures, European Stocks Edge Up
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.8% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.6% in morning trading. Thyssenkrupp rose 8.7% and Wartsila added 8%. On the other hand, Spectris dropped 99%, and Investec PLC lost 99%. The FTSE 100 added 0.6%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 increased 0.3% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.5%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.1% to 100.28.
In commodities, Brent crude rose 0.6% to $88.32 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.7% to $84.15 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 1.2% to EUR30.14 a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield declined by 2 basis points to 2.614% from 2.635%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 2 basis points to 4.688% from 4.708%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index climbed 0.8%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 2.1%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 1.2%.
