Iberdrola Subsidiary Scottish Power to Pay GBP1.5 Million After Overcharging Customers
By Christian Moess Laursen
Iberdrola subsidiary Scottish Power will pay 1.5 million pounds ($1.9 million) for charging customers above the price cap during the height of the energy crisis.
The Glasgow, Scotland-based energy utility said Tuesday that it has paid a total of GBP500,000 in direct refunds and goodwill payments to affected customers, after overcharging 1,699 customers a higher rate than they were supposed to pay.
The issue saw customers paying GBP149 more than they should have, on average.
"We're so sorry that a very small number of our customers were affected by this mistake and faced an increased financial burden," Chief Executive Andrew Ward said.
In addition, the company has agreed to pay GBP1 million to the U.K. regulator's fund for charities and community projects that help vulnerable customers with energy-related support.
Iberdrola didn't immediately respond for comment when contacted by Dow Jones Newswires.
