Stellantis Aims to Cut More Than 3,000 Jobs in Italy, Union Says
By David Sachs
Stellantis is ready to cut more than 3,000 jobs in Italy, a local union says, as the company navigates a bumpy industry transition to electric and more digitized vehicles.
The multinational maker of Jeep, Dodge and Fiat is offering buyouts to about 3,600 workers across several factories, including in Melfi, Pomigliano d'Arco, Mirafiori and Termoli, Italian union FIOM-CGIL said Wednesday.
Stellantis did not confirm the number for voluntary layoffs, but said recent deals reached with trade unions "address the effects of the energy and technology transition process that is currently underway and that is affecting the automotive sector in all its aspects."
Last week, Stellantis laid off about 400 employees in the U.S., mostly in its software and engineering divisions.
