Enel Energia to Appeal Fine Over Alleged Data-Protection Shortcomings
By Mauro Orru
Enel Energia plans to appeal a fine that Italy's data-protection watchdog levied on the company over alleged shortcomings in handling customer data.
The Rome-based energy company said late Thursday that it had always acted correctly and adopted all appropriate measures to comply with regulatory provisions, including on data protection.
The announcement comes after the Italian Data Protection Authority imposed a fine of more than 79 million euros ($85.4 million) on Enel Energia, saying its IT systems showed lax security.
