Constellation Brands Taps Former BJ's CEO for Independent Chair
By Dean Seal
The former chief executive and executive chairman of BJ's Wholesale Club Holdings will join the board of Constellation Brands as its non-executive, independent chair.
The maker of beer, wine and spirits said Tuesday that Christopher Baldwin, a managing partner at private markets manager CVC Advisors, will become a director and non-executive board chair on March 1.
Before CVC, Baldwin held various board and management positions at BJ's between September 2015 and June 2023. He was promoted to chief executive in February 2016 and named chairman in 2018, roles he held until February 2020. Baldwin will continue to serve as a BJ's board member until his term expires at the company's next annual shareholders meeting.
Baldwin also served as chairman of the National Retail Federation board of directors from 2018 to 2020.
Constellation also said Tuesday that Susan Somersille Johnson has voluntarily resigned from the board seat she has held since July 2017. The resignation wasn't due to any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to its operations, practices, or procedures, Constellation said.
