Nokia and Dell Form Network Cloud Partnership
By Dominic Chopping
Nokia and Dell Technologies have a new strategic partnership to work together on cloud technology.
The deal, announced Thursday, sees Nokia adopt Dell Technologies as its preferred infrastructure partner for its Nokia AirFrame servers, which help distribute network capacity and drive the implementation of cloud networks.
At the same time, Dell is adopting Nokia as its preferred private wireless partner for enterprise edge use cases--bringing data processing and storage closer to where the data is generated or consumed, rather than transmitting it to a central data center. This offers minimal delays, improved reliability and performance as well as lower costs.
Cloud platforms in telecom networks host software which is used to do the job traditionally done by physical equipment, lowering infrastructure costs, speeding up network deployments and aiding the development of new services for customers.
"Through our collaboration, Nokia and Dell Technologies will harness each company's expertise and expanded distribution to simply and quickly scale modern telecom networks and private 5G use cases," said Dennis Hoffman, general manager of telecom systems business at Dell Technologies.
Financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed.
