SNC-Lavalin Partnership Secures Fusion Engineering Support Contract in U.S.
By Adriano Marchese
SNC-Lavalin Group and its partners have been awarded an engineering support services contract by the U.S. Department of Energy's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.
The Canadian company, which has rebranded and is in the process of changing its name to AtkinsRealis, said the indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract has a base period of three years and two optional years and a ceiling value of $50 million.
Along with its partners Jacobs Technology and Longenecker and Associates, it will support the design of future upgrades to the primary fusion experiment and user facility called the National Spherical Torus Experiment-Upgrade.
The partners will also deliver design and fabrication support of plasma diagnostic and heating sub-systems for ITER, the international fusion facility being constructed in France.
Lastly, they will also provide conceptual designs of electricity-generating fusion plants and development of physics and technology advances that can improve their economics.
