Teck Resources, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Sign Steelmaking Coal Transportation Agreement
By Adriano Marchese
Teck Resources and Canadian Pacific Kansas City have signed an agreement to transport steelmaking coal from Teck's operations in southeastern British Columbia.
The companies said Thursday that the long-term deal is between the newly combined Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad and Teck Coal and runs until the end of 2026.
The collaboration will also include a pilot program aimed at integrating CPKC's hydrogen locomotives into Teck's supply chain, as well as provisions to invest in infrastructure and technology that aims to strengthen the Canadian supply chain.
The companies said testing is expected to begin in early 2024, and these efforts should help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
