Brightline Selects Siemens Mobility for Las Vegas-California Rail Project
By Josh Beckerman
Brightline selected Siemens Mobility as the preferred bidder to build train sets for the Brightline West high-speed rail project.
The contract will include a fleet of ten American Pioneer 220 train sets.
In April, Brightline West had a groundbreaking event for the 218-mile system that will connect Las Vegas and Southern California, with a goal of being open in time for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Brightline began Florida service in 2018.
Brightline and Siemens said Wednesday that Siemens "will establish a new facility to build the AP220 and will announce the location of America's first true high-speed rail production center when the contract is finalized."
Alstom was also a prominent contender, according to several media reports in 2023 and 2024.
Brightline is backed by Fortress Investment Group.
Meanwhile, Jacobs was also selected for work on Brightline's Nevada segment. Jacobs said it will provide final design of the trackwork and 22 complex structures.
