Microsoft's Partnership With Mistral AI Cleared by U.K. Regulator — Update
By Ian Walker
Microsoft's partnership with Mistral AI has been cleared by the U.K. competition watchdog.
The Competition and Markets Authority said Friday that the deal doesn't qualify for investigation under the Enterprise Act 2002.
The CMA said in April that it was seeking third party comments into partnerships between tech and artificial-intelligence companies including Microsoft and Amazon.
It said at the time that the regulator was seeking views on a partnership between Microsoft and Mistral AI and one between Amazon and Anthropic, an AI firm based in the U.S. Microsoft's hiring of former Inflection AI employees is also a subject of interest.
Microsoft announced its multiyear partnership with Mistral AI in February as part of its commitment to develop trustworthy, scalable, and responsible AI solutions.
No decision has been disclosed on the regulators investigation into Amazon as yet.
