U.S. Futures, European Stocks Drop
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.1% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 dropped 1.4% in morning trading. Topdanmark rose 6% and Ericsson B climbed 5.3%. On the other hand, Wise lost 9.4%, and ArcelorMittal slipped 4.7%. The FTSE 100 lost 1.4%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 declined 1.5% and Germany's DAX fell 1.4%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.1% to 100.55.
In commodities, Brent crude gained 0.4% to $90.47 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.4% to $85.75 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 2.1% to EUR31.8 a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield declined by 1 basis point to 2.441% from 2.448%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 3 basis points to 4.636% from 4.608%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were down as Japan's Nikkei 225 index declined 1.9%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 2.2%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite fell 1.6%.
