We evaluated 10 HSA investment providers on the attractiveness of using their HSA accounts for spending to cover current medical costs as well as investing for the long term. Fidelity remains the only provider to earn a high overall assessment for both investment and spending accounts, maintaining its leadership position. Despite declining fees, HSAs still face challenges in competing with other investment accounts, such as mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and bond funds, due to pricing and limited features. Many HSA participants are missing out on benefits like tax-free growth, better investment strategies, and opportunities to optimize their accounts for retirement.
