Japan NISA Landscape: Mid-Year Update 2025

NISA investment strategies continue to be a popular choice for investors, but heightened market uncertainty has slowed their growth.

A Nippon individual savings accounts (NISA) is a Japanese government tax-advantaged investment account meant to help residents save and invest. With the amount of NISA purchases continuing to increase on a quarterly basis, our research indicates retail investors are leveraging NISA accounts for long-term asset formation. In fact, net inflows into Japanese publicly offered investment trusts were 7,963.9 billion yen in the first half of 2025, and while inflows significantly slowed this past quarter due to increased geopolitical considerations weighing on the market, we still expect the Japan NISA investment market to reach 100 trillion yen by the end of 2027.

Our report analyzes the NISA investment landscape, comparing the latest fund flows into NISA and non-NISA accounts, purchase trends, investor behavior, and more.
