McDonald's Corp. (MCD) will launch the McPlant in the U.K. and Ireland, a plant-based sandwich made in partnership with Beyond Meat Inc. (BYND). The sandwich will be available at 10 restaurants in Coventry on September 29, then expand to more than 250 on October 13 before going nationwide in 2022. The sandwich is made with vegan cheese, a vegan sesame seed bun and toppings including onions and pickles. McDonald's plans for a plant-based burger were announced in November 2020, though further details about the item weren't forthcoming. A three-year partnership between Beyond Meat and McDonald's in which the McPlant would be launched in select markets and other plant-based menu items developed was announced in February 2021. BTIG said it wasn't planning for a 2021 McPlant launch in the U.S. in 2021. McDonald's stock has gained 11.2% for the year to date. Beyond Meat shares have slumped 10%. And the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 14.5% for 2021 so far.
