Eni Wins Rights to Explore Offshore Block in the Gulf of Mexico
By Marc Navarro Gonzalez
Eni SpA (ENI.MI) has won a Mexican government auction to explore and produce in a block located in the deep waters of the Cuenca Salina basin, the Italian oil-and-gas company said on Thursday.
Mexico's national hydrocarbon commission has awarded the contract to operate offshore block 24 to a joint venture between Eni and Qatar Petrolium, the company said. Eni owns 65% per cent of the joint venture, with Qatar Petrolium holding 35%.
Eni said the contract will strengthen its presence in Mexican offshore. Eni also holds operating rights in 3 other exploration and production blocks in the Cuenca Salina basin, it said.
