Airbus SE (AIR.FR) said on Friday it would pay a 81.25 million euro ($99.6 million) penalty as part of the termination of a German investigation related to the sale of Eurofighter aircraft to Austria.

The penalty notice of EUR81.25 million is based on the alleged breach of supervisory duties of Airbus Defense and Space GmbH's former management. It alleges that certain former management failed to ensure proper internal controls that would have prevented employees from making payments to business partners without proven documented services in exchange, Airbus said.

However, the Munich prosecutors' investigation, ongoing since 2012, didn't confirm bribery allegations, the company said.

The notice also recognizes Airbus's efforts on compliance since 2012, which have resulted in "a serious compliance program," Airbus said.
