Shares of energy companies rose as tensions in the Middle East offset an unexpected rise in U.S. stockpiles. The Energy Information Administration said U.S. crude supplies rose by 5.4 million barrels for the week ended May 10. Houthi rebels allied with Tehran have finished pulling forces out of three Red Sea ports in Yemen, the United Nations said, a withdrawal that comes as the U.S. warns of heightened threats from Iran and its proxies in the region. Iran has denied involvement in attacks on oil tankers near the Straits of Hormuz.
