Canada Labor Productivity Climbs 0.2% in 4Q

OTTAWA--Canadian labor productivity climbed 0.2% in the fourth quarter, Statistics Canada said Wednesday. As a result, productivity for 2017 rose 2.1%, or the best performance in three years.
The data agency added Canadian productivity rose at a faster pace than the U.S. -- up 1.2% in 2017 -- for a second straight year.
In the fourth-quarter, Canadian unit labor costs rose 1.5%, while hours worked climbed 0.2%. Canada's gross domestic product rose at an annualized 1.7% pace in the October-to-December period.
In comparison, U.S. productivity fell 0.2% in the fourth quarter.
