Beam Therapeutics' Sickle Cell Treatment Gets FDA's Generative Medicine Advanced Therapy Designation

Beam Therapeutics' said the Food and Drug Administration granted generative medicine advanced therapy designation to its sickle cell disease treatment BEAM-101.

The biotechnology company previously said the FDA granted orphan drug designation to BEAM-101 in June. The company plans to present updated data from its Phase 1/ 2trial by the end of the year.

"We remain focused on delivering a transformative treatment to people living with sickle cell disease," said President Giuseppe Ciaramella.
