Galaxy Entertainment 1st Half Net Profit Rose on Stronger Macau Tourism, Mega Events
By Tracy Qu
Galaxy Entertainment's net profit rose in the first half of the year, helped by solid momentum for Macau tourism and entertainment events.
Net profit climbed to 5.24 billion Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to $667.52 million, compared with HK$4.39 billion in the first half of last year, the casino operator said Tuesday.
Revenue increased 8.3% on year to HK$23.25 billion.
The company also announced an interim dividend of HK$0.70 per share.
The earnings growth was on the back of solid momentum for Macau tourism. Visitor arrivals to Macau were 19.2 million in the first half of the year, up 15% on year, according to its filing.
Mega entertainment events have also "resulted in a substantial increase in gaming, retail, food and beverage and hotel revenues", it said.
The company noted that it remains confident in Macau's outlook, citing the ongoing improvement in transportation infrastructure making it easier to travel to and from Macau, as well as within Macau.
