Man Truck and Bus Partners With Mobileye For Automated Bus Series
By David Sachs
Man Truck & Bus said Wednesday that it has started a partnership with Mobileye aimed at eventually producing a series of autonomous urban buses.
The German brand, part of Volkswagen subsidiary Traton, said it is teaming up with Israeli driving-tech company Mobileye to automate its buses. The partnership is the first step of what Man said would be several before reaching the point of producing highly-automated buses in cities.
Man said autonomous buses have potential when it comes to total cost of ownership and personnel deployment. It plans to test an automated bus, with a driver on board for safety, in 2025 on the streets of Munich. No financial details of the partnership were released.
