Canada, Ericsson to Co-Invest C$470 Million in Next-Gen Communications R&D Collaboration

The Canadian government and Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson have signed a five-year research-and-development partnership that will funnel 470 million Canadian dollars ($351.6 million) toward developing next-generation communications technologies.
The investment will go to the Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company's facilities in Ottawa and Montreal, and which is expected to create hundreds of jobs in 5G Advanced, 6G, Cloud RAN and Core Network technology spaces.
Ericsson Canada has R&D facilities and offices in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, spending an average of C$345 million per year at these facilities.
There will also be financial support for the expansion of research facilities and staff support for quantum computing at Ericsson's new quantum research hub in Montreal.
