Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. said it has been informed by a vendor that a file-sharing system has been attacked, which may have compromised customer information.
The illegal attack on the system, called FTA and provided by California-based supplier Accellion, was carried out by unidentified hackers, Singtel said in a statement on Thursday.
The telecommunications company has since suspended all use of the system and began an investigation and an impact assessment into the incident, it said.
Singtel is also working with authorities including the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, which is providing additional guidance.
The company emphasized that the attacked system is a standalone third-party system.
"Our core operations remain unaffected and sound," Singtel said.
