Vector Capital Completes Sale of IPValue Management Group to Fortress Investment Group
IPValue’s Revenue Grew More Than 400% Under Vector Capital’s Ownership
Vector Capital Management, a leading private equity firm specializing in transformational investments in established technology businesses, today announced the successful sale of IPValue Management Group (“IPValue”), a leading IP commercialization provider, to Fortress Investment Group (“Fortress”). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2001, IPValue is the leading IP commercialization partner to the world’s most innovative technology companies. The company has been entrusted with the strategic licensing of over 60,000 patents and has generated more than $2 billion for its partners while championing innovation and ensuring freedom to operate for industry participants.
“IPValue represents the embodiment of Vector’s special situation investing model,” said Rob Amen, a Managing Director at Vector Capital. “Partnering with CEO John Lindgren and the management team for over a decade, we were able to grow revenue more than 400%, deliver outstanding financial performance, and position IPValue as the partner of choice to the world’s most important technology companies. We are proud of our success in creating the largest and most successful IP monetization platform and are confident the company will continue to grow and prosper under its new owners.”
Vector Capital first invested in IPValue more than a decade ago. Throughout the partnership, Vector collaborated with IPValue’s management team to expand the company’s licensing programs, deepen relationships with leading technology innovators, and scale the business across new technology categories. The company achieved substantial revenue growth, strong profitability, and meaningful cash generation during Vector’s ownership, establishing IPValue as the preeminent platform in IP commercialization and producing an exceptional return for Vector’s investors.
John Lindgren, who will continue to lead IPValue as Chief Executive Officer, said, “Vector was an outstanding partner to IPValue. They are one of the few investors who understand the complicated IP monetization market and supported us in every phase of our growth. On behalf of the entire management team, we thank them for their decade of partnership and join them in celebrating this success.”
